One of the first lucid dream induction devices in the world was the DreamLight created around
1990 by the Lucidity Institute in the USA. Its price was 1200 USD. It used special electrodes
put close to the user's eyes to detect the REM state. Then after detecting REM it sent a special
light signal from LEDs to the sleeping person to remind them that they are dreaming.
This device looked like a sleep mask with an electronic circuit board inside it. ![]() Then in 1993 a smaller version was created by the same team. The name of this device was the NovaDreamer and it cost around 300 USD. It was produced until 2004. It had a US patent, which expired in 2004. It used infra-red sensors to detect the REM state and also sent a light signal from LEDs to the sleeping person. ![]() In 2004 our Polish team created a device called the REM-Dreamer. It was quite similar to the NovaDreamer. Its price was 147 Euro, much cheaper than the NovaDreamer. It was sold from 2004 to 2019. The REM-Dreamer also used infra-red sensors to detect the REM state. ![]() At the begining of 2020 its successor was created and released to market, called the SmartLucider. Between 2004 and 2020 a few other lucid dream induction masks were also created. The new SmartLucider device is much lighter, smaller and cheaper than all other masks currently on the market. Its price is only 70 Euro. This device also uses infra-red sensors to detect the REM state. SmartLucider also has improved REM detection compared to the REM-Dreamer. The new device is also very easy to operate. ![]() |
